Your First Visit

When you schedule your first acupuncture appointment I will ask you to complete a comprehensive intake form or Health Questionnaire. The information you provide about your main concern, your health history, and other concurrent symptoms and lifestyle factors, contributes to a holistic understanding of your mind and body constitution, and the potential root causes of your health issue to be addressed.

After reviewing your Health Questionnaire, we will discuss your condition, and you can ask any questions you may have at this time as well. I may examine your pulse and tongue, which are just two of several diagnostic methods of Oriental medicine I use to understand your unique health presentation. The acupuncture points I choose will depend on your condition, but 10-30 needles is common for most treatments. It is important to me that treatment is tailored to your sensitivity level, which varies greatly between people. Therfore, your feedback during the gentle insertion of needles is very much encouraged for the most comfortable experience.

Once the needles are in place, you will rest comfortably for 20-40 minutes while the needles gently stimulate your body's energy at, and between, the treated areas. During the treatment, you may feel various sensations and the easing of muscular tension and pain. You are in charge of how long you would like to rest, and are always encouraged to communicate any sensations you are not familiar with or are concerned about.
Many people find acupuncture treatments deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time.
